February Nature Study

Yes, I know it is March, but we really did this in February. I just got lazy and didn't get the post up at that time.  ; )  We were able to sneak away one afternoon for some nature study at our typical location (the family farm). Dad came home early from work and was happy to go with us. As usual we found something "new" to do and took a different trail for our walk. I didn't even know there was a "frog pond" on the property! There was a bunch of tadpoles, so frog season should be good this year. We have been listening to a bird call CD and we paid close attention to the birds while on our nature walk. I took several pictures of trees with holes and other markings.

Last year we were unable to do our nature study during the first of the year because of all the snow we had. We would have LOVED to do a nature walk in the snow, but getting out to the property was not possible. This year has been a mild winter and very little snow.

This tree looked like it had been struck by lightning and woodpeckers made a condo building.

We found some unique holes while on our nature walk.

Tyler looking for trouble. Don't worry, I had him get down. Too many pointy branches to fall on!

Tyler is thinking about how far he can get up this ladder. It was an old deer stand, so I told him it wasn't a good idea to climb further than he wanted to fall. He still went up half way.
